Robert De Niro, considered one of the greatest american actors of all time, is currently working on a biopic about Enzo Ferrari.
De Niro, 71, told the Italian newspaper Il Messagero: “It is an honour to tell the life of an extraordinary man who revolutionised the world of motor sport. The film will go into production soon, mostly in Italy, and has absolute priority over all my other projects.”
The movie will focus on Ferrari’s life from the startup of his world renowned car company in the mid 1940s until his death in 1988. De Niro’s production company TriBeCa Film will be co-producing the movie, while Clint Eastwood has been hinted as the director. Although script-writing is still in progress the untitled movie (“Ferrari” ?) should be released in 2016.
The last car Enzo oversaw was the F40, which celebrated Ferrari’s 40th anniversary. Shortly after the F40’s launch in 1987, “Il Commendatore” died on August 14th 1988 at the age of 90.
Robert De Niro is one of the few actors which can portray the legendary racer, entrepreneur and above all car enthusiast which Enzo Ferrari was. De Niro has an impressive career which started in 1965 and features iconic movies as The Godfather: Part II, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, Heat and many more.
With De Niro and Eastwood the movie will hopefully be the tribute worthy of Enzo Ferrari’s heritage.
