A McLaren F1 is a special car on its own, but being a single-owner car owned by the world famous Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson’s popular comic character) makes it even more desirable.
The car is chassis 61 from 64 road cars and produced in 1997. The car is finished in a unique Burgundy red which isn’t used in any other F1 and has only run 41,000 miles and looks in pristine condition.
The F1 was conceived by Gordon Murray, designed by Peter Stevens and produced from 1992 until 1998. In total 106 were made: 5 prototypes (labeled XP), 28 racecars (GTR), 1 LM prototype (XP LM), 64 standard versions (F1), 5 tuned versions (LM) and 3 longtail road cars (GT).
The F1 features a three-seat layout, with the driver seated in the middle and the passengers at each side. The car features a number of unique materials like carbon fibre, titanium, gold, magnesium and kevlar. For example the engine bay was covered with gold foil because of its excellent heat reflection abilities. The F1 was also the first production car ever to use a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis.
BMW custom made the atmospheric 6.1 litre V12, which delivers 627 hp and a torque output of 480 lb/ft (651 nm) at 5600 rpm. Acceleration from 0–60 mph (97 km/h) takes 3.2 seconds, 0–200 mph (320 km/h) 28 seconds. In 1998 it set the record for the world’s fastest production car reaching 243 mph (391 km/h).
The interior features equipment normal for regular cars but very exceptional for sports cars: air conditioning, electric windows, remote central locking and a 10-disc CD stereo system. One of a kind was the gold-plated titanium tool kit.
Although production stopped in 1998, McLaren still maintains an extensive service network for the F1. Severe damaged F1s are can even be repaired by McLaren directly.
For the record: this particular car suffered 2 accidents (2009 and 2011), where the last one costed the insurance company 910,000 pounds in repairs and resulted in a shoulder injury for Atkinson.
The price is on request, but the rumoured asking price is 8 million pounds (11 million euro/ 12 million USD).
