To honour its 80th anniversary, Jaguar will participate in the 2015 Mille Miglia with nine famous and very expensive cars. Jaguar’s official team consists of three C-types, three D-types, an Xk120, a XK140 and a MK VII.
The 33rd ‘modern’ Mille Miglia is a reenactment of the original Italian race held between 1927 and 1957. The original race was notorious for its many casualties. But luckily the modern variant is safer and focuses more on the cars than the racing aspect.
The official Jaguar team not only houses some of the most iconic Jaguars but the drivers are also celebrities. Five-time winner of the Le Mans 24hr, three-time Daytona 24hr winner and sportscar veteran, Derek Bell will drive a C-type. The other two C-types will be driven by Jaguar’s Vehicle Integrity Chief Engineer Mike Cross and the Royal Automobile Club Motoring Committee Chairman, Ben Cussons.
Ian Callum (Jaguar’s Director of Design) will pilot a ‘Long Nose’ D-type, which finished second at Le Mans in 1957. While the other two D-types will have British TV-chef James Martin and classic car expert Simon Kidston at the wheel.
Classic Car Show’s Jodie Kidd teams up with supermodel and classic car enthusiast David Gandy in the XK120 roadster. While British singer/songwriter Elliot Gleave will drive the XK140 with his father. And finally, TV personality and motorcycle enthusiast Charlie Boorman partners with Giles English in the MK VII.
Besides the ‘official’ nine Jaguars a plethora of other classic Jaguars will also participate. And other marques will also be well-represented. So in other words a true classic car dream event.
The teams will cover the 1,000 miles from Brescia-Rome-Brescia from May 14th until May 17th.
