Rolls-Royce produces some of the most luxurious cars in the world. A Rolls always stands out from the competition, but this car is truly remarkable. It is a 1962 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II LWB Louis Vuitton (model names don’t get much longer than this).
The Silver Cloud series was Rolls-Royce’s first post-war model and considered by many as one of their most elegant cars. The Silver Cloud series can be categorised in:
Silver Cloud I (1955-1959)
Silver Cloud II (1959-1962)
Silver Cloud III (1962-1966)
The Silver Cloud II was launched in 1959 with an almost untouched exterior (compared to the Silver Cloud I). The main novelty was the 185 hp 6.2 litre V8 engine which propelled the 2.11 tonnes from 0-60mph (0-97 km/h) in 10.9 seconds, with a top speed of 169 km/h (105 mph). Throughout its production years improvements were introduced in the ventilation system and interior.
In 1962 the Silver Cloud III introduced the four-headlamp layout, which for me doesn’t have the same magnificence as the single lamps of the I and II. So if I had to choose the Silver Cloud II would be my choice.
A total of 2,717 Silver Cloud IIs were produced.
2,418 featured the standard wheelbase (3,124 mm – 122,9 in), of which 107 built by coach builders.
299 had the long wheelbase (3,226 mm – 127 in), 47 were built by coach builders.
This long wheelbase car has a division window between the driver- and passenger compartment and offers some serious space for its passengers. On the outside the Hazel Brown with Bisquit colour scheme is spot on and breathes vintage all over this impressive giant. And believe me it is huge, almost intimidating, in real life. The car is enormous but nevertheless it exhibits a unique classic elegance. Something only Rolls-Royce could come up with.
And the interior? Ah well, here the real magic happens. It is fitted with certified Louis Vuitton material, based on the Louis Vuitton monogram on a dark brown background. Combined with the ubiquitous lacquered wood you have something truly unique to drive in. That is if you can afford the €92,500 price.
This car is being offered by Hooper International (NL).
